What is a Modern-First Century Church?

We're glad you asked!

In short it is a church that makes the timeless wisdom of God's Word and Biblical patterns relevant to our society today.  Somewhere between the out-of-touch religious practices of yesteryear and today's anything-goes attitude, lies a balance of Biblical wisdom that has never changed, even though the society around us does.  It is that balance we seek, with God's help.

Let's break it down...

Modern--We live in a high-tech, fast-paced world today.  A world much different then our parents and grandparents lived in, or even the people who first established churches on American soil for that matter.  Society has changed over the decades and how people relate has changed.  In the midst of all these changes we believe that man's most basic needs have not changed -- just the way he seeks to understand and meet them.  The church of the 21st century needs to understand our times and offer relevant answers to today's issues and problems.  We are a modern church in that we are not stuck in the past, trying to answer questions no one is asking.

First-Century--While the world, the issues, and the way people relate to them have changed, we have discovered that the Bible and it's message has not and does not need to change in order to meet people's needs today.  The Bible tells us, "Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, and today and forever." (Heb. 13:8).  Soon after Jesus died, God established a pattern for how His church was to relate, first of all to Him, then to people in the Church, and finally to the world. God has never changed the pattern and it still works great today.

Church--Although we probably shouldn't have to explain this, we find that many people have some very strange ideas about the Church. In the early days of the Christian Church the word "Church" never referred to a building or an organization.  In fact the word "Church" means "called out ones" and refers to the people themselves.  So, in the truest sense of the word, you cannot "go to Church," because you "ARE the Church."  It's hard to go somewhere that isn't a location!  The Church is made up of everyone who has understood the message of forgiveness and has accepted God's offer of salvation through Jesus Christ.  The Church is a group of people who have joined together in spirit and truth to serve God, by loving each other and asking God to use them to make a difference in the lives of people we come in contact with.
